My balcony has new visitors! In the past few days mom and pop Blackheaded Grosbeaks have been making quick checks on the feeders in the evening. He is magnificent in his tux, she somewhat faded next to his handsome look, but quite beautiful in her own way! They stay for while, peck a bit here and there, then fly off to their night time rendezvous. For info see: “http://www.allaboutbirds.org/guide/Black-headed_Grosbeak/id”>
Exciting days! With this good weather, all the woodpeckers have made a visit to our balcony:
*A large redheaded Pileated Woodpecker
*A large neckerchiefed Northern Flicker
*A Hairy Woodpecker that is larger than the small Downy Woodpecker. Both were feeding at the same time and it was easy to see the difference in size this way.
So with the raucous call of the Stellar Jay, and the equally raucous call of the pileated, we have been surely entertained. And very lucky!!
