There is some exciting work right now on Stoney Creek. The SCEC 2012 Habitat Improvement Project is in full swing improving the stream so that Salmon, returning to spawn, can easier make it up to their spawning grounds.

There are two segments of the project. One is to install weirs.

Another segment of the project is reviving a pond lower down on the creek, that has become bogged down with sediment.

If you are wondering why access to the creek along the BC Hydro right of way beside Stoney Creek, Burnaby is temporarily blocked. This is why. Check out Stoney Creek Environment Committee website, for updates and progress. And visit back in the Fall! There will be great action with the returning salmon!!!
