Just a reminder: Now is a good week to sign up to volunteer with the Burnaby Wildlife Rescue. It’s volunteer appreciation week! Contact Linda, the Volunteer Coordinator for information: 604-526-4199
Actually besides the nice chocolates going around for the volunteers, now is the start of the busy season for the animal rescue… And it’s the perfect time to work in the wildlife garden, my own interest at the centre. Good time to see all the new buds.
There has been a lot of work this year already to prepare the gardens for rehabilitation and resuscitation. A dedicated, soft grassy area around back for the ducklings is taking form, and I noticed the cold frame installed at the back of the public garden, no doubt nursing some little plants. The wildlife garden is taking shape slowly but surely.
I saw my first white bloom of the Trillium today. The Trillium were successfully transplanted two years ago during the University Elementary (SFU) Native Plant Rescue at UniverCity, Burnaby, BC.
If you visit Burnaby Lake and the Burnaby Wildlife Centre, peer into the garden just to the right of the Administration Entrance and at the front of the property . You will see many Trilliums. You will no doubt have a visit from a bird, like the funny woodpecker today who tasked himself to knock out a tune on the metal flashing on the telephone polls. Spend time to appreciate the peace and beauty.
