How many paved paths do you think run through Univercity and across the SFU campus?

The unpaved path is the rarity.

Usually we don’t even think and just follow the path.

I challenge the community pedestrians to be aware today as you walk across the community or across campus. How is our community experience defined by the paved surfaces?
Step to the side of the path, on the grass instead. Could we be a community that supports more permeable surfaces. Can we consider means of transport and foot wear that don’t require specialized surfaces?
Hardy shoes?

Grassy surfaces are easier on the knees.

Gravelled surface allows rainwater to permeate into the surface.

More runoff adds to the erosion of soil, taking away rich soils that, in turn, can clog fish-bearing streams in the lower watershed, impacting the habitat viability.
